Painting 9 of 14 in the series, “The Circles of Life”
This painting was inspired from a photo captured during my first safari experience in South Africa. Horns of Fire, is the 9th painting from the series titled, “Circles of Life.” Our first-encounter with one of the Big Five occurred within ten minutes of departing the small airport in “The Bush”.
The mighty rhinos were perfectly positioned alongside the dirt road welcoming us as we approached our lodge. Everything about them was stoic, from their posture to their piercing stare, which commanded respect. It was as if they were posing for a photo and at the same time reminding us we were entering their territory.
As we got closer to them, the intensity in their stare increased, so much so it felt as if we had gotten a sting from a fierce whip to keep us in check. My interpretation of their welcome is a metaphor for life; while we should be welcoming and humble we must not lose our sharpness and keen sense of protection of self, family and the world we live in. We must always trust our instincts and not second-guess our gut feelings in all situations we encounter.
The emotions and energy from that moment can be seen translated into the sharp, rapid and repetitive brush strokes. The color selection reflects the passion and burning fire at the core of the rhinos and inside each of us.

Whether you are an seasoned collector or a first time buyer, there is nothing that can provide the same joy as knowing you are the only person that has the original piece of art. The same can be said about commissioned artwork in which you, the buyer dictates the subject and muse for the painting and sometimes even the colors. It’s a pleasure for me to bring to life your interpretation of amazing moments captured by.
